In my professional opinion, attitude and perception play a huge role in a comedian’s ability to generate big laughs on stage.

There are many comedians, especially new ones who go on stage to give the best performance that they can. Unfortunately, that tends to cause the comedian to believe that they need to be some larger than life figure on stage—a special character who is embraced by the audience.

First of all, a comedian does not have to become some special character. Each person has their own unique sense of human and style of communicating with others. No special “character development” is required.

no-excusesAs I was reflecting on the stand-up documentary I Am Comic” that I was chosen to participate in, it is really humbling to realize that…

Out of all the comedy teachers on the planet, I was chosen to be a part it. Not comedy teachers from Los Angeles or New York. Not comedy teachers from some sort “established” comedy school. But wait, it gets better…

I don’t have any TV credits as a comedian. I don’t have a book available in the major book stores or on Amazon.com. I don’t even know how to write a stand-up comedy “joke” in the “traditional” way (thank God).

overcome-stage-frightOne of the biggest battles most every comedian, comedy entertainer, or speaking professional faces involves stage fright—those uncomfortable feelings of impending doom and the exacerbation of self doubt.

These issues are compounded when a performer realizes that this condition is having an adverse affect on their level of performance.

Let me say this—you simply cannot have enough confidence when you stand before an audience. I’m referring specifically to confidence in your stand-up comedy material, confidence in your performing ability and confidence in yourself as an entertainer.
