Stand-up Comedians Realizing The Power Of Twitter
I just saw an article on CNN and the second line of the article says it all:
To succeed in the industry these days, you don’t just need to be good on stage and screen. You also have to nail the art of sending out mini-messages to Twitter “followers.”
Whether that is actually 100% true or not is yet to be seen. But the real story is one I have been talking about for years…
Getting ahead in stand-up comedy is much more than being funny. You MUST be in the business of self promotion. And what that REALLY means these days is that you MUST use the Inetrnet to develop and grow your fan base. Period.
The article that I am referring to featured comedian Craig Shoemaker and John Heffron speaking of their own experience using Twitter. If I were you…
I would pay close attention to that article. And just so that you know…
Twitter is not the only game in town. There’s MySpace, Facebook, Hub Pages, Squidoo and who know what other vehicles are available to help an aspiring comedian build a following online.
So if you think that you can just watch cartoons all day and somehow become rich and famous in the world of stand-up comedy…
It might be prudent to quit smoking those “left handed cigarettes” for a day and start using the Internet for self promotion.
Just a thought.
Cheers,

Enjoyed every bit of your article. Really looking forward to read more. Great!
I love that Steve refers to joints as “left-handed cigarettes”… even my grandma says “weed”.
