Let me start out by saying that there is no “one size fits all” technique when it comes to delivering stand-up comedy material effectively.
The reason is simple—every comedian has their own individual “style” which is based on a number of factors such as speech rate, body language usage and vocal mannerisms just name a few.
But what I can do is identify some of the key elements that have a significant impact on a comedian’s stand-up comedy delivery, whether they are a “joke telling” comedian or topic based comedian.

In my professional opinion, attitude and perception play a huge role in a comedian’s ability to generate big laughs on stage.
There are many comedians, especially new ones who go on stage to give the best performance that they can. Unfortunately, that tends to cause the comedian to believe that they need to be some larger than life figure on stage—a special character who is embraced by the audience.
First of all, a comedian does not have to become some special character. Each person has their own unique sense of human and style of communicating with others. No special “character development” is required.
