If one of your goals is to get a spot on Comedy Central, VH1 or any other TV network that showcases comedians, you need a sizable subscriber list of fans.
And if you think your MySpace or Facebook page is enough, I will be the first to tell you that those social networking sites are simply not enough. In the “bigger” picture, they count for squat.

If performing truly “edgy” stand-up comedy is your goal, I can only highly recommend that you carefully study comedian Carlos Mencia — specifically his comedy special called No Strings Attached.
I just reviewed that particular Carlos Mencia performance in its entirety and I have to say that it was not only hilarious, but also one of the best presentations of “edgy” stand-up comedy material that I have ever seen.

For those wanting to know how to become a comedian on a new level, I want to talk about comedy competitions and comedy talent shows.
Sometime, somewhere you are probably going to compete in a comedy competition or comedy talent show (or at least consider it).
Let me just say beyond the very first comedy competition I was in (which I won), my experience with comedy competitions has not been that favorable.
The main reasons comedy competitions weren’t usually favorable was because of my own lack of knowledge about how many comedy competitions REALLY work and my own unrealistic expectations. Read more »
Are you a clean comedian looking to break into corporate comedy work? Well, there isn’t near as much competition as in the comedy club market and the pay can literally dwarf any comedy club income.
There are a number of very good reasons why there is so little competition in the corporate marketplace when it comes to corporate comedians.
The #1 reason is because there are so few clean comedians that can actually deliver funny comedy that is APPROPRIATE for the corporate market. You also have to realize that most comedians don’t even begin to look at the corporate market until they are well into their careers. Most are looking for the glamor, fame and fortune of movies and TV.
Corporate work simply does not have the “glamor” factor. It only has the “make money and have fun” factor.
