aisha-tylerIf you haven’t heard of comedian Aisha Tyler, it’s only a matter of time before you will.

Not only does she possess the ability to generate big laughs on the stand-up comedy stage without being rude and crude, but she is also playing the game large when it comes to self promotion.

I just watched her performance which was recorded live at the Fillmore Theater in San Francisco. There’s absolutely no doubt from the audience response that she commands a 35+ PAR score. That’s key right off the bat. The woman is funny.

What makes Aisha Tyler unique is that she’s one of a growing number of female comedians who can communicate stories effectively with frequent laughs per minute. She can discuss issues of intimacy in a very funny way without being “in the gutter” so to speak.

But beyond her obvious command of the comedy stage and the ability to sing (she has a funny music video called Noassatall on her website)…

I want you to take a very close look at what she is doing in the way of self promotion.

First of all, she produced her show at the Filmore herself, getting a TV quality DVD recorded from the show. That didn’t happen for free. She invested in herself.

She also directed and produced the music video I referred to earlier (personally, I love that video).

Now, let’s take a look at her Internet presence—she’s gone beyond having just a MySpace page as her only Internet visibility vehicle (she talks about her MySpace page in her act). She has a HOT and highly professional comedy website, one that I am sure helps her in getting higher paying gigs and performing offers.

She’s also on Twitter and who knows what other social networking sites.

Folks, pay attention! Being funny is simply not enough. You MUST be able to promote yourself in order to be recognized by those who can take you farther and faster in your stand-up comedy career.

If I can get an interview with Aisha Tyler, I will post it on the blog. There’s much to learn from this talented diva. Mark my word, she will become a household name and it will be largely due to her ability to use the Internet for self promotion.

Cheers,
