al-frankenAl Franken, former SNL comedian and author is now a Minnesota Senator. And I would suspect that he’s going to do a pretty darn good job for that state.

Why do I think that? I’ll tell you why. I met Al Franken personally when I was performing on cruise ships.

Here’s what happened…

I was sitting in the sauna on the cruise ship when he walked in. It wasn’t long before introductions were made and I let him know I was the comedian for this particular cruise. He told me he would make it a point to attend the show.

Well, he did attend the show. And when I got to the part in my act talking about goofy laws in various parts of the country, I would say…

Is anybody from Minnesota…
(Al Franken yelled out “I am!”)
Who would admit it right now?

Well, that particular show was not my best. The average age of the passengers on that cruise was right at 120 years old and it’s hard to work over respirators and heart monitors.

But even with that said…

The next day I had a personal note from Al Franken saying that he was the guy from Minnesota who yelled out, he enjoyed my show despite a less than optimal audience.

That really touched me. It was one of the highlights of my short time on cruise ships.

So, if you want to know why I think Al Franken will do a great job for the state of Minnesota as a Senator, regardless of party affiliation…

The man was a pro before he ever jumped into politics. His one personal note to me spoke volumes about the person that man really is.

Being a pro has nothing to do with entertainment, politics or whatever category you want to place it in. It has to do with the person you are on the inside and your willingness to reach out beyond yourself.

That’s what Al Franken has done—not just with a personal note to me, but now for a whole state of people.

You don’t think he did that because it would make him better looking, do ya?
