I would be making use of online tools that you have at your disposal now. One of those tools is YouTube and if you know how to use it, you can really shave a ton of time off what it takes to get into your zone.

Since so many accomplished comedians have videos on YouTube, here’s how I would use these videos to my advantage…

The Process

First, you need to find a video of a comedian who’s “style” most matches your natural presentation style. You need to make sure that the comedian is getting at least 4 laughs per minute on the video (more laughs per is better).

Next, you need to transcribe the comedy material in the video word for word.

Then format that material using the Killer Stand-up Comedy System or the Stand-up Comedy Fast Start Guide.

What you will have in your possession is pure gold because now you can:

** Visibly see how a headline comedy act looks on paper. You should also be aware that most of the material won’t “read” funny. That’s because the laughter power of a bit or act is in the delivery, not the words per se.

** Count the number of words used to get to each punchline. While this will vary somewhat, you are still going to find that usually, there are very few words before a punchline.

** Count the number of punchlines delivered each minute.

** Study each punchline in relation to the material being presented.

In other words…

You now have a killer template that you can easily use for developing your own tight comedy material.

This type of methodology was not available to me when I started my comedy career. There was no YouTube back then. But had it been available, this is what I would have done right from the beginning so that I could really have a feel for how headliner comedy material is structured to get the frequent laughs.
