Your very first stand-up comedy open mic can be a time of great anticipation—along with tremendous fear.
I have no magic pill that you can take and you will magically kill the audience your first time out on stage.
But what I can tell you is this…
If you have been to a comedy open mic as an observer, then you already know that it won’t take much to be head and shoulders above the others.
Here are the 7 top comedy open mic tips that I would give:

I would also add this…
You simply cannot over prepare for a comedy open mic. You need to be rehearsed and polished, just as if you had performed your act 100 times before.
You need to have confidence in your stand-up comedy material, no matter what audience demographic you are performing for.
Never perform for the other comedians in the room. Always perform for the audience.
And if you really want to stand out like a sore thumb on comedy open mic night…
Get big laughs with clean comedy material. You’ll get more offers for work that way—right from the beginning of your comedy career.

great tips, really really great, especially about being clean, I’ll remember that!
Hey guys,
I cannot reiterate the clean bit Steve shares above. I have worked clean since day 1 and I get offer after offer after offer for corporate and club work. Not to mention other comedians who as me to teach them how to work clean. At the end of the dat, as Steve teaches in Killer Stand-Up course, you can always put a word into a good joke, but if you take one out of a joke that relys on the swear word, you haven’t got anything left!
Cheers,
