Another Killer Stand-up comedian has blasted onto the stand-up comedy scene in record time—so let me introduce you to 30 year old Miami comedian Johnny Trabs in Miami, Florida.

Johnny is no stranger to live performing or television as a part of an award winning sketch comedy duo with comedian Yamil Piedra called “A Pair of Nuts” who have been featured on Last Call w/ Carson Daly, BET, NBC, Discovery Channel, Mega TV and all over the internet.

But last year after much prodding from a cousin, successful sketch and improv comedian Johnny Trabs decided to take a shot at stand-up comedy in June 2009—which is a whole different ball game than sketch and improv comedy. Read the rest of this entry

comedian-leftI was doing a search online to see if I could easily find comedy open mics. Here’s what I found out…

There appears to be plenty of directories for music open mics. But when it comes to finding comedy open mics, it’s a whole different story.

So here’s what I am prepared to do to help solve this issue…

I am currently testing a software product that would allow me to easily set up a classified ad type service (global) for:

**Comedy open mics
**Comedy one nighters
**Comedy contests and competitions
**Comedy festivals and events
**Other performing opportunities for new comedians

This open mic listing service would be completely free for all comedians.

But here’s the deal…

I don’t want to spend the time and effort to set this up if nobody is going to use it.

So, the first thing I need to know from you is if a service like this would be something you would use (let me know in the comment box below).

The second thing I would need to know is…

Would you be willing to place listings for open mics in your area using this service? Here’s why I ask…

This would be a worldwide stand-up comedy community effort. In other words…

When you find a comedy open mic, one nighter, etc., you would need to take a moment and place an ad (make a listing) for those performing events.

I think it would be great to have a single resource to go to find stand-up comedy performing opportunities for new comedians, no matter where you live on the planet.

But I have also had plenty of great ideas that just laid there like a dead fish.

So, if I get a decent response to this idea (use the comment box below), I will start the ball rolling to set this service up.

Otherwise, this idea will go directly into the waste basket. Fair enough?

abc-tvThere’s a new reality TV show in the works featuring stand-up comedians working under pressure called “The Fast & the Funniest”. This new reality competition show is being developed by ABC.

If greenlighted, “Funniest” would debut on the network in late midseason or next summer. It joins ABC’s upcoming auto-competition series “Crash Course” and the Jamie Oliver weight-loss series among the network’s reality efforts in development.

The show follows a group of stand-up comedians as they travel cross-country competing in challenges and performances. The first three to reach the final destination will perform for a cash prize.

The reality TV project is produced by Page Hurwitz and Javier Winnik, who were involved with the defunct reality contest “Last Comic Standing.”

But “Funniest” could represent a more urgent take on the comic-competition series format made popular by “Standing,” which ran for several years on NBC until it was canceled in 2008.

The project’s order is contingent on casting with Page Hurwitz and Javier Winnik producing the show.

So, keep your eye’s peeled for more information. There going to be some new comedians get a pretty huge break if this reality TV gets off the ground and it is a hit.

I would suspect that there will be a call for tryouts — I just don’t know if it will be nationwide or only involve LA and New York comedians.

If you discover any information about this that I have not already posted on this blog, please let me know.

Cheers,
