A line that is written to be “read” is not the same as a spoken word line. A line that is written in standard “writing” format is read from the beginning of a sentence to the punctuation at the end of the sentence.

One of the biggest problems most new comedians encounter is that the “set-ups” to the punchlines in their comedy act are way too long.
