The fifth variable is what I found really impactful. Having the audience visualize what is being said is such an important factor. Tapping into their imagination really is key.
I was especially guilty of the second point. Before coming to this website I actually wrote down all my jokes to the letter and I was starting to think that being a comedian is too tedious. I am so happy that I know the more efficient way to “write” comedy now.
Hrmm, this is very interesting. I can definitely see why people would want to hire a professional comedy writer since the assumption is that if the words are funny on paper then they must be funny on the stage. I always find that to be such a half truth. Delivery is the single most important factor!
