  1. Great article! I totally agree, I watch a lot of comedy specials on tv and it’s great they made it to TV but a lot of comedians are just not very funny. Some of the funniest comedians I have seen live are at colleges and universities around southern ontario they have been awesome! I recommend to anyone go to a college that have weekly comedians around lunchtime. You’ll be glad you did.

  2. You say “It’s not that the comedian is necessarily delivering material faster with a smaller audience.” I think that is true but I also feel that comics tend to have “tags” or “throw away lines” for jokes that only work if the initial punchline gets a good laugh. Smaller audiences laugh less, so as the comic I tend to discard the tags and move on to the next premise. Similarly, this applies to call-backs. If, as the comic, I feel a joke didn’t get the response as it does with a bigger audience I may hesitate doing a callback joke, forcing myself to adapt and do other (and more) material.

  3. It’s very clear that Brian and Nimrod have two different styles. My comedic style will be similar to Brian’s. Thanks for posting both videos. They both were insightful. I’m studying 3-5 youtube videos a day to learn more of the do’s & don’t. Studying the comedy videos are helping me become more confident with my joke writing. I have set a deadline to perform within a month or two.
