I want a true evaluation, so it’s probably not a good idea to time laughter responses if i have 10 or 20 friends in the crowd who are trying to get others to laugh. I’m sure my numbers will be great, but it’s a false positive. That could be happening to people with a small audience, especially if mom, GF, BF, dad, or a couple friends make up a good portion of the audience. I’m sure it’s unethical, but my sample clips on my site and demo DVD could be the embellished result videos from heavily slated audiences. What is your personal feeling about embellished clips? Do the major chain clubs blacklist comics? Like if I send an demo to 3 or 4 “comedyworks” clubs in different states, would they already know if killed or got booed off stage?
Comedy clubs and pro talent buyers can usually tell when a stand-up comedy video is embellished. You should never embellish a recording of your stand-up comedy, especially when it will be used to solicit work.
I should also mention that video is NOT the best medium to get work in the comedy clubs. Getting a guest set and killing is the best way to get comedy club work.
Als, is it a good idea to put different levels of comedy on MY OWN site? I enjoy Blue sets most, but i am very graffic. I have sets for family/kids, blue, and borderline sets that IMPLY adult themes without actually using inappropriate words or gestures. Kind of like Rita Hayworths “Is that a roll of quarters in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?” It’s not a “blue” line persay, but it implies “blue” thoughts. I have several sets that provoke “blue” thoughts in a similar manner that children or young adults might not catch. Another common example comes to mind too. “If you can’t cook it, don’t eat it.” Hamburger Hill movie line i think. would those type joke be acceptable for a family venue? Just wondering how i should “rate” my demos on my site.
I would have different EPK’s for different comedy markets. You can do that for free using the EPK info I provide in my course.
You don’t want to mix adult content with clean content.
Is it a bad idea to put out a long video of most of my best stuff on Youtube or my own site?
I will be doing the same routines for the most part, so would’nt it become stale live in person? Or perhaps i should choose 2 or 3 short sets. What would be a good lenght in total for all my demo videos combined?
I would keep videos at 2 minutes or less and only your best couple of videos visible.
